Magic Thursday with Special Guest Tabitha Robbins Growing up Spooked with Halloween Giveaways!

It's my pleasure to introduce the very lovely Tabitha Robbins as our Magic Thursday guest today. Tabitha writes the most gorgeous romances, and she's here today to share her Halloween treat with us! Tabitha is also generously offering some Halloween delights with giveaways of her latest releases, A Haunted Moonlit Night and a digital copy of her best selling collection, The Complete Holiday Babies Series

Growing up…seriously, what chance did I have?

Typical TV entertainment: Count Yorga Vampire or Night Gallery reruns.

Regular reading material: “Creepy” Horror Comics and Stephen King.

Normal sibling activity: A low-lit Séance (better still if conducted on a stormy night or during a “black out”).

Oh, I hear ya.

Where on earth were her parents?!

It was a single-parent (and remote) household, mother working full-time, mostly night-shift. My sister (adequately older) looked after my slightly younger brother and myself. She’d brush my hair, make my lunch, help me with schoolwork.

My sister also shared with us her devotion to all things spooky. (Anyone heard of Eulalie the Witch? <epic shudder>) I wouldn’t swap the ghost stories and good times we three shared for the world!

Now, I write romance for a living, the sweeter variety, with babies and strong, protective men who always deliver a memorable happy-ever-after for my deserving heroines. My latest series of short stories and novellas is set in the fictitious small town of Point St. Claire in Maine. In a previous story, I’d introduced the Point’s lighthouse, which is (of course) haunted.

Here’s the blurb from A Haunted Moonlit Night…

Former dot-com success Jack Mason doesn't believe in ghosts or goblins. He hadn't bought this old lighthouse and keeper's cottage in Maine because of its eerie past, but to indulge a childhood dream. Then photographer Sammy Briar blows onto the scene.
   Sammy's story, delivered the night before Halloween at the site of a haunted grave, would raise the hair on the back of anyone's neck. Jack is intrigued, and not only by her tale. Everything about Sammy is captivating, mesmerising, including her kiss. It's as if...
   Well, it's as if they'd met before.

Like all good ghost stories, there’s a twist in the tale that, I hope, will leave you caught between a gasp and a sigh.

To celebrate my favorite holiday, Halloween, I’m giving away a digital copy of A Haunted Moonlit Night as well as a digital copy of my best selling collection, The Complete Holiday Babies Series. To be in the draw, share with us your most memorable spooky experience growing up…but do it with the lights on!

Tabitha Robbins is a penname for a best-selling romance author with millions of books sold worldwide. Tabitha is into New Adult, Young Adult, Paranormal and Contemporary romance. Anything with a hot hero and an unforgettable love story! Stay up to date with the latest news and releases here.

Magic Thursday-Lord of the Hunt & giveaway

Nothing says magic quite like fairies! Lord of the Hunt is the second in my Annwyn series which centers around the failing magic of Annwyn and its effects on the mortal world.

Book 1 is The Outcast Prince and Verden, Lord of the Hunt, had a very small role in the story. However he’s back in book 2 as the hero :)

The fairy realm of Annwyn lies between life (our world) and death. Once humans worshipped fairies as gods and they reigned over death….we might have forgotten that, but they haven’t.

With the King dying and boundaries between life and death are blurring and plagues are breaking out in our world. It’s not really the best time for the second most powerful fairy in Annwyn to break the rules and fall in love. Not that he even believes in love. Love is dangerous and can be used against you in Annwyn. Of course no one ever plans to fall in love.

Taryn, the heroine, certainly didn’t she was only going to Annwyn to get a pardon for her father so he won’t die when the power shifts from old king to new king…or queen.

Lust, backstabbing, poison, death threats, magic, gambling…welcome to Annwyn.

I’m giving away one copy of book 1 The Outcast Prince.

Leave a comment to go in the draw! Winner will be drawn Monday 16 December at 7am WST.

Just One Taste Is All It Takes...
This is no ordinary mirror. Caspian caught a hint of color, a whirl of a waltz just past his reflection—a glimpse into the decadent Fairy Court of Annwyn. The home he could never have. It called to him, whispering temptation after temptation...if he could only reclaim his rightful heritage.
To Be Forever Lost...
Caspian has an even stronger reason to stay in the world of humans. He's just met a woman who captivates him like no other. But loving him has proven to be dangerous. And he will do whatever it takes to protect Lydia from the vicious, seductive world of Court—even if doing so requires the ultimate sacrifice: his soul.

Lord of the Hunt is available for pre-order:
Barnes and Noble: http://bit.ly/GVIurC
Amazon: http://amzn.to/1gmIwmI

Bookdepository: http://www.bookdepository.com/Lord-Hunt-Shona-Husk/9781402280191

She Wasn't Cut Out for His World...
The realm of the fairies might be unbelievably beautiful, but its people are notoriously treacherous. Raised among mortals, Taryn hoped to avoid her fairy heritage her whole life. But now she must cross over to Annwyn and appeal to the King to pardon her exiled parents, or they're sure to die. And to get to the King, she'll first have to face the Lord of the Hunt...
He Can't Imagine Life Without Her...
Verden, Lord of the Hunt, is sworn to serve to King. But the moment he sees Taryn, the attraction is instant and devastating. How can he not help the beautiful, brave young woman who refuses to bend to the will of the court? Yet the power in Annwyn is shifting, its magic failing. No matter how much he may love Taryn, the Hunter knows that abandoning his duty could bring down the mortal world forever...

REVIEWS

My Lady Quicksilver by Bec McMaster received a 4 Pot rating from Talk Supe.
"My Lady Quicksilver is  such a rich novel...it has great romance and tension but what I loved about it most isMcmaster's all encompassing take on the world she created as a whole. Not only does she titillate her readers with bodice ripping romance, she also adds layers of social intrigue to make the plight of her character believable."

Magic Thursday - YA fandom for The Blood She Betrayed

by Cheryse Durrant

The lead-up to my book launch has been a fascinating journey as old friends and new have flexed their creative muscles to help capture the spirit of my Young Adult urban fantasy novel, The Blood She Betrayed. This week, hubby Shane and I whooped with delight when friend, reader and doll-collector extraordinaire Rieckie Muchow posted these images on Facebook:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (aka Prince William and Kate) read young Prince George his first bedtime story… It’s always good for young princes to learn about positive female role models. Photo and set-up: Rieckie Muchow

Serious study: The Barbie Book Club discusses The Blood She Betrayed as their September assignment. Watch out, Ken! They'll be picking up a move or two from inside these pages! Photo and set-up: Rieckie Muchow

Some of my local Bundaberg Writers Club members even have their own fictional characters talking to me as if Max and Shahkara really exist. ‘If Shahkara needs a place to stay while hiding out from the police, she’s welcome at my place,’ Alina Bonaventura’s Zander messaged me via FaceBook.

 A couple of years ago, while I was still writing The Blood She Betrayed, my BFF and artist Stephanie captured my secondary character Harry on paper with incredible accuracy (left).

I was also lucky enough at WorldCon in 2010 to have author, artist and game designer extraordinaire Howard Tayler sketch a quick image of my Shahkara ‘hanging’ with international comic icon Sergeant Schlock (right). I know. This a Cheryse fangirl moment - but I had to brag about it. See! Shahkara's getting a hug from Schlock, loved by millions (except enemy aliens).

Even reading reviews of The Blood She Betrayed fills me with delight. The best part isn’t the five-star reviews but reading how other writers and readers describe my story and my characters in their own distinct voice. Some of my reviewers have come up with fabulous The Blood She Betrayed taglines, including ‘Move over Vampires, Taloners are the new sexy’ (thank you, Alina Bonaventura) and ‘Taloners may eat your heart, but humans can steal it’ (thank you, Booknut 101). It’s like seeing my story in a whole new language or light. Beautiful. Exquisite. Still mine, but in ways I could have never described it.

For decades, my younger sister tolerated my far-fetched fantasies but since reading The Blood She Betrayed, she's now a Heart Hunters fan.

She even designed special The Blood She Betrayed T-shirts for Little Miss Five and Little Miss Six. Beneath Ran Valerhon's vibrant cover image are printed the words: “Too young to read it, but excited enough to wear it”. Maybe I should roll out a full range of kick-butt urban fantasy wear for toddlers…

Finally, my girlfriends rocked over on Friday night to create the pièce de résistance: The Shahkara, a sweet but punchy mocktail (or cocktail, if you add rum) that captures the feminine but gritty spirit of my kick-butt heroine... there's even a torn strawberry gripping the glass rim to remind us of those heart-devouring Taloners lurking in wait for us. Thanks, Reece McPherson (above), for playing waiter and photographer on the night (this pic was taken by What If member Miranda Shoe).

Launching one’s debut novel is fraught with unexpected challenges, but the love and support of my friends and fledgling fans keeps renewing my passion. Thank you for joining me on this amazing journey – and I’m looking forward to catching up at The Blood She Betrayed eBook launch party on Facebook tomorrow night.

GIVEAWAYS

Keri, M.J., Christina, Kylie S., Erica, Shona, Bec, Rowena and Kylie G. would like to thank everyone who supported the Aussie Author Giveaway and bought books at Rosemary Romance Books, Rendezvous Bookstore and Galaxy Books during the months of June, July & August. It was a huge success. We hoped you enjoyed your purchases and are enjoying some new-to-you-Aussie-authors books!

BOOK COVERS & RELEASE DATES

Keri Arthur's Heart of Darkness (re-release Aug 27th, 2013) and Who Needs Enemies (ebook release Aug 28th, 2013) came out late last month.

Private Investigator Nikki James has a lot to contend with. Her lover, Michael Kelly, walked out without so much as a goodbye, and what seemed like a simple case of stopping a runaway teen brought her face-to-face with another clutch of deadly vampires. But if that seemed bad, it is about to get a lot worse, because when Michael returns, it is not for her, but for the case.
Wealthy men are starting to vanish from a resort in Jackson Hole—which is exactly where Nikki’s runaway teen seems to be as well. Something nefarious is going on at the luxury spa, but what? The last thing Michael needs is a confrontation with Nikki—especially when his control over his bloodlust is still so tenuous. But posing as a newlywed couple at the swanky resort may be the best way for both of them to solve their respective cases. This time, Nikki is determined to make Michael see that life apart is worse than death. Yet before she can make him see the light, a specter from Michael’s past rises that could destroy any hope she has of a future with him. Because this time the threat isn’t physical. It’s a matter of the heart.

Harriet Phillecky is a rare part elf, part siren and wanted by neither race. Not that she really cares. A successful news photographer turned paranormal investigator, she now has a 'family' of friends that includes ogres who constantly raid her refrigerator and take over her TV, and a dragon who drinks far too much for his own good.
But when the only elven relative she has any contact with asks her to investigate the disappearance of a siren, she finds herself unable to refuse.
All too quickly the disappearance becomes murder, relatives come out of the woodwork, and a man she'd much rather forget steps back into her life. Harri wants nothing more than to run—especially when the evidence beats a path to the doors of those who'd long ago abandoned her. But when the life she's created for herself comes under threat, Harri has little choice but to hunt down a killer—before everything she holds dear is destroyed.

Carlie Simonsen has released two short chapter books.

Wings: Wings #1 (Released on 20 July, 2013)
Wings is the first book in the Wings series, which follows a family of people who have wings and bird-like feet. They have lived as normal a life as possible, concealing their not-so-human aspects as best they can. So far they have been successful, but that’s all about to be turned upside down.
Jack has wings, but he keeps them well-hidden. When a new girl comes to school and does not hide her own wings, what changes will she bring to Jack’s life?

Wings is available from Smashwords, Amazon-Kindle, Kobo, Nook, DriveThruFiction and iTunes.

Flying with Friends: Wings #2 (Released 26 August, 2013)
Jack has been looking forward to the Christmas holidays. Not just because it is a break away from school, but because, this Christmas holidays, he is going to learn to fly. The only thing that mars his trip is the flash of blue he sees behind them on a remote dirt track. Why would someone be following them way out here? Is he seeing things?
Flying with Friends is the second book in the Wings chapter book series, set around a family with wings and bird-like feet.

Flying with Friends is available on Kindle, Kobo, Nook, iTunes, DrivethruFiction, Smashwords and as a print-on-demand title.

REVIEWS

Christina Phillips has received a 5 star review from A Readers Review for Tainted:
“Tainted is bursting with lush eroticism and riveting romance… Author Christina Phillips is in the Premier League when it comes to historical erotic Romance. Her novels have the perfect balance between erotic lovemaking and an exciting, credible and well crafted plot..."

Adina West received an 8.5/10 star review from Fantasy Fiction for Dark Child (Omnibus Edition):
"I enjoyed this book a lot. After Twilight I wasn’t expecting to be able to tolerate these creatures ever again, but Adina West has convinced me to give them another chance. I would also love to thank her for writing a story about vampires and werewolves without once mentioning those words. Brilliant!...Dark Child is a smart, fun adventure with characters I enjoyed spending time with and a plot that actually went places. Regardless of the over-saturation in the market of the creatures involved...this book was everything that [Twilight] wasn’t—in all the best possible ways."
Full review here.

The Blood She Betrayed by Cheryse Durrant has received a 5 star review from 21st Century Once Upon a Times & Booknut 101.
"Brawls, wicked intentions, romance, destiny and magic collide in a novel that is sure to have you hooked until the very last word.
 With effortless humour, vivid detail and a cast of relatable characters, Cheryse Durrant's The Blood She Betrayed is a refreshing change from your usual YA fiction, reshaping myths and creating worlds that will entice and engage readers across the world.
Taloners may eat your heart. But humans can steal it."
Full review here.

The Blood She Betrayed has also been reviewed by Bundaberg NewsMail Editor Christina Ongley, who writes:
"A book bursting with complex and likeable characters as Durrant deftly fuses modern-day and centuries-old worlds in a classic good-versus-evil action story. The Blood She Betrayed is not without its lighter moments as Shahkara’s old-world language and her efforts to grapple with modern technology bring regular amusement, but at the heart of this story is her steely resolve to carry out her mission to destroy, regardless of the huge personal cost. Durrant peels away the layers to reveal a tantalising climax."

Magic Thursday - what is in a name?

Nicole Murphy

At the moment, I'm revising and re-writing my science fiction romance. I love this story - I should, I've been writing it for nearly 30 years!

Soon it will be ready to send out to my beta readers. By the end of August, maybe mid September, it will be ready to start submitting.

Which brings me to the part I hate most of this entire process - coming up with the title.

I sooooo suck at titles. Honestly, it's horrendous. Maybe one third of my titles get used as is? The rest get changed. I almost want to send my subs in with the note "yeah, I know the title sucks, but you can change it, I don't mind and honestly, the book is good..."

My upcoming release 'The Lies We Tell' went into the publisher called 'Painted Together'. Neither the editor nor marketing liked it, and so the discussion began. What to call it? We came up with an idea (damn I wish I'd saved the emails - can't remember what it was) but marketing didn't like it, so we tried again.

At least it didn't take as long as the books in the Dream of Asarlai trilogy. Honestly, it took months and I was about to throw my hands in the air and tell HarperCollins to call them whatever they wanted when the publisher and I finally came up with 'Secret Ones' (originally Love in Control), 'Power Unbound' (originally Freedom to Be) and 'Rogue Gadda' (originally Chance and Reward).

See? Complete suckage.

So here's my plea to you all - PLEASE HELP ME COME UP WITH THE TITLE FOR THIS BOOK!

Here's the synopsis:

Cassandra Wiltmore would do anything to keep the Rican Balcite Mining Company profitable, both for her family and for the people of Rica, who she will one day rule. When a consortium tries to convince the Planetarium that the RBMC shouldn't hold the license to mine balcite any more, Cassandra is determined to find out who they are and stop them.

But everything she does seems to backfire. Her attempts to find out who is in the consortium results in her obsessed wannabe lover convincing the entire planet they are to be married. Her confrontation with the man she believes at the root of her problems leaves her lover Kernan Radaton first in a coma then unable to remember her.

Then just when she finds out the truth and realises she can save herself from a horrid marriage as well as the family business, she is kidnapped. With time ticking away, she needs to get out and have the truth revealed in four days, or she'll be forced to marry and will have to leave her home, not allowed to return until she brings a new heir.

With ingenuity, Cassandra is freed and arrives just in time to witness the destruction of her fiance and her salvation. She thinks all will go back to normal, except the Prince of Rica has plans for her. The only good thing to look forward to is that Kernan has regained his memory, forgives her the part she played in his injury and is ready to help her led her new life, so she gets a happily ever after - just not the one she really wanted.

***

What would you call my science fiction romance? Tell me your suggestion and you'll go in the draw to win my new book, The Lies We Tell. Not to mention the one I like the best will become the official title of the book, and you'll be acknowledged in the text.

Magic Thursday-The Outcast Prince

Music and the muse

I don’t listen to music when I write, however I make a playlist for all my novels. When I’m running or at work I’ll listen to those songs to keep me in the story while I’m writing the first draft. Later that playlist helps me get back into the story for edits. The music is my short cut to getting in the mood.

I remember plotting this story and being at an Eskimo Joe concert (they were launching the Ghosts of the Past album) and I heard Echo for the first time. Right then I knew that would be perfect for the hero Caspian who is psychometric. Crossfire by Brandon Flower was already on the list—because getting caught in fairy drama is never a good thing.

Sometimes the playlist develops organically as I plot, other times I go looking for songs as I need that anchor into the world I’ve created. While for a novel or a series I might end up with 20-30 songs, for a novella it might only be 2 or 3 songs. Some songs hold greater meaning than others and become attached to a particular point in the story.

Devil’s Party by INXS will always be the Court of Annwyn. Lush and with seemingly no morals they gamble and make deals, use sex to secure favors and either have no understanding or no use for love.

There is a downside to the playlist. After listening to the same songs for weeks on end while writing the first draft it’s always wonderful to switch it off and listen to something else :).

To go in the draw to win a copy of The Outcast Prince tell me what your favourite song is. Winner will be drawn 7pm WST Sunday 23 June.
~~~
Outcast Prince had me spellbound from the first page! Shona Husk's engaging voice and vivid, creative world-building make every one of her books a must-read!" - Larissa Ione, New York Times bestselling author
"Brilliantly unique, beautifully sensual, The
Caspian Mort can feel the history in anything he touches, a gift he inherited from his father, the Crown Prince of Annwyn. Devastated over his ex-wife's infidelity, Caspian has withdrawn from human contact except when working as an antiques dealer.
While assessing the contents of the historic Callaway House he encounters the beautiful Lydia Callaway and senses that her home is haunted by a banished fairy. But what does the dangerous exile want?
Unbeknownst to Lydia, she's the owner of the last remaining portal to Annwyn--a mirror hidden somewhere in the house. To keep Lydia safe, Caspian will have to divulge the secrets of his heritage, and risk losing his heart again.
