Hi everyone!
One half of Angelica Grymm here. I’d like to chat today about writing what you love.
I’m published in Contemporary Romance, which is definitely a love of mine, and I enjoy writing them—BUT! That big, old but. Spec Fic is what drew me in as a small child, it held my attention and awe like no other. I fell in love with space, and with fantasy, and with the idea of the mystical, and with aliens at a very young age (I’d honestly say around age five years old). I hunted anything down that I could relating to the subject and was continually disappointed at the lack of content.
That is no longer the case. (Can we all say THANK YOU for eBooks?!?)
SFFR is my first love. It’s my True Love. My Fated Mate.
The possibilities, the whole, it can be whatever *you* choose it to be. That’s a draw that I simply can't pass by.
So, a good friend and I decided to work together to put out the works we already had lined up on our laptop hard drives, manuscripts that we’ve both entered into contests, that have done really well, and some having almost being sold to traditional publishers …
Except for that elusive consensus at the marketing round tables. In all cases, there was one hold-out who either didn’t think the book hit market, or that there was no market for that particular book.
No market for SciFi Romance
No market for Fantasy Romance.
No market for Paranormal Romance.
*blinks into the void*
*the void stares back*
*we both laugh*
And Angelica Grymm was born. Both of us have been around publishing for a while now, we’re not fresh and green. We’ve taken a long, hard stare at what the market is and isn’t, and we’re ready to unleash ourselves onto the SFFR world.
All waffle aside, the biggest thing I’d like to share with any new writers is you can be successful in many different ways, but that might not necessarily be in the area/genre that your heart resides.
Don’t give up. Don't give in. Don’t let someone tell you there’s no market for that book.
Because there is.
Because if you were moved enough by the idea to write it? There is someone out there who definitely will want to read it, whether it be firmly in the middle of current hot tropes, or not.
Absolutely, write to market, but also write what you love. What your heart tells you is right for you. If you do that? You can't go wrong.

I'm giving away one e-copy of my next release, my debut SciFi Romance, The Finding – out October 2023. If you’d like to have a little look-see and be in the running, comment below.
Sold.
Reece Halliday will find a way back home, even if it kills her. Abducted from Earth and auctioned off on the other side of the galaxy, a scarred starship XO buys her as a birthday present for his boss–as a pleasure slave.
Ruthless starship officer Calin Aubron will do anything to climb the ranks of the Mendovan Alliance and regain the respect stolen from him. Life has taught him a harsh lesson: there is only duty, position, and honor.
Neither Reece nor Calin expect to find a deep, abiding solace in each other’s company, a solace that leads Calin to dig deeper into Reece’s background and her claims of kidnapping.
But the Rathian slave traders behind the kidnappings refuse to let one small, worthless human derail their lucrative income stream from reaped worlds.
They will kill her first.
