Magic Thursday: On having two names with Maggie Mundy!

 

Hello fellow Darksiders & DarkSider readers!

Maggie Mundy here. The lovely Eleni asked me to talk a little about the fact I write in two genres and have two pen names.

I came to writing later in life and was more involved in acting in the past. I had performed in corporate entertainment and had been an extra on a few TV shows like Neighbours and Ladies in Black. In a previous existence before I retired, I was an operating room nurse. Yes, it does help with the gory scenes.

After a midlife crisis and the thought ‘there has to be more than this’ I went to university and did a degree in English, Drama and Creative Writing. I was trying to find myself and discovered I liked writing.

The books I was reading at the time were fantasy and paranormal. Think, JR Ward and Christine Feehan and I love me a little Lord of the Rings. I had to read it twice just to understand it. So, when I started to write, it seemed obvious to me to go with fantasy. I wrote under my own name Maggie Mundy and was published by some small presses in the US and Canada.

I then decided to branch out into contemporary romance. I’ll be honest and say it was because it is a bigger market. I still had stories that have a suspense element with a nasty antagonist. I like steamy stories but do like a bit of tension.

I was given advice that it would be good to use a different name so people would not get confused. My second name is Rosemary so I went with Maggie Rose. I only have one website but feature both names. Keeping the same first name also helps.

I have now returned to my first love of fantasy because I love the world building and the magic.

My latest release is and epic fantasy with romantic elements and is called The Secret of the Essence. 

I am currently working on book two The Fate of the Unknown that should be out later this year.

Cora survives her training as a mask wearer and her relationship with Alenze grows stronger. Then the city is attacked, and she has two choices. Stay and be controlled, or leave with Alenze and try to find and fix the Essence.

As they travel, she sees the land is changing and so are they. But, could someone like Alenze ever love a person like her who has caused all the magic to fail.
