Hey Darksiders! This is my first Magic Thursday post, so I thought I’d write something linked to the theme of my series—Fate.
The concept of fate has always intrigued me. That there’s one driving force moulding our destiny, steering us on a path which ultimately ends at a predetermined destination. But does that force also control our choices along the way? That, my friends, was the question that prompted the entire Fallen Guardians series.
I built The Fallen Guardians world around the idea that Fate (a powerful angelic queen who created the universe) controls immortal lives by moving pieces around her metaphorical chess board. The series begins 300 years after Fate blindsided the Guardians by exiling them to the mortal realm to save their fallen brother. A mission that turned out to be harder than they all expected. Plus, I don’t think even Fate predicted how much centuries of banishment could darken their souls, making the Guardians lose hope of ever returning home.
Each standalone book focuses on a different Guardian while continuing the overarching story of saving their fallen brother. Of course, along the way, Fate pairs each Guardian with a soulmate they didn’t plan for! But even though the Guardians believe Fate controls their choices and ultimately, their destiny, with each path they take in the mortal realm, they begin to wonder if they possessed free will all along. Maybe they can influence their own destiny. Perhaps Fate’s magic only creates forks in the road, and the Guardians have the power to choose which direction they follow.
The end of each book leaves the reader contemplating free will versus destiny and wondering if each fork in the road Fate created, will still lead the Guardians to the same predetermined destination. Between you and me, Fate has gained a reputation for being a bitch and I doubt many readers trust her right now!
On that note, I’ll leave you with this thought: what if every decision you made was predestined and, right now, Fate is calculating her next move to accomplish her cunning plan? Would you carefully consider your choice or willingly lay your destiny in the palm of her hands?
Book 4, The Fallen Guardians
As each piece in Fate's twisted plan locks into place, she raises the stakes...
Slice, dismember or maim, Raine forges powerful weapons for any purpose. When her most lethal creation falls into enemy hands, she'll cross every forbidden line to retrieve it. Including, teaming up with a wicked Fallen who makes her blood boil. If the mortal realm didn't depend on her, she'd behead him.
To secure his soul's freedom, Slater must first endure Hell. Literally. Until his plan goes up in hellfire when he loses his only bargaining chip—a deadly weapon crafted by an angelic killer. Now, he must convince her to become his ally. Immortals fear her...but he loves playing with fire.
As their passion and hate collide on the battlefield, these two ancient enemies must join forces to save the world...unless they kill each other first.
