I love myths and legends and believe there is a basis of truth in it all, but behind the mystery I'm pretty sure the evil was undertaken by man :-)Christina Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14394771634788090193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8871421659562888277.post-20156359425195944722012-09-27T16:34:43.779+10:002012-09-27T16:34:43.779+10:00Man is the monster.

Mans actions against man are sometimes so horrific they could be fiction ;( But that said imagination has a lot to answer for. I still won't go into my backyard at night lol. Worried that something that goes bump in the night will take me out ;P

Kelly Ethankellyethanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00570244895417827191noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8871421659562888277.post-77708034683636853342012-09-27T10:12:33.072+10:002012-09-27T10:12:33.072+10:00Hi Bec!
I've just started reading your book, ...Hi Bec!

I've just started reading your book, and loving it so far =))

I think the atrocities man can do to others (and animals) is worse than any monster. Look at Hitler. Mind you I was terrified of the dark when I was a child so I guess it's all what one's personal fears are about at any given time.Mel Teshcohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12945507690555119380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8871421659562888277.post-40791356976068080422012-09-27T09:59:48.364+10:002012-09-27T09:59:48.364+10:00For the imagination, myth can be rather powerful. ...For the imagination, myth can be rather powerful. Just think of all the mythical tales or boogey man tales humans have passed down form generation to generation, particularly in non-technological times. Grendel, Medusa, werewolves, ghosts, and so on. The mind is great at scaring its owner silly. I know as a kid I used to do that all the time, even just the dark would scare me.

But Effie & Imelda have it - man's inhumanity to man is pretty awful. Confronting and stark because it's real and in your face. At least with myth there's a small sense of being removed, that it might not be true. When faced with the cold hard facts of a real life horror you can't escape it.

And, just as an aside, darn it, McMaster, this excerpt makes me want to go grab KOS of my TBR shelf and sit and read it right now (and you know I can't!!! Waaaaaaaiiiiiiiiillllll!!!!!!). Going to have to be strong, strong, strong and resist. Damn you!!! :-DKylie Griffinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00469214884337936604noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8871421659562888277.post-18066452710907698882012-09-27T08:32:41.269+10:002012-09-27T08:32:41.269+10:00I find man's inhumanity to man much scarier an...I find man's inhumanity to man much scarier and more disgusting than monsters. I think it's why the cross-over between man and monster in monsters like vampires is so interesting. Where does the evil really live? In the monster, or in the person? I'm sure that's one reason why stories about this kind of monster are perenially popular. Best of luck with it, Bec, it sounds great!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08410600166713090364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8871421659562888277.post-10297347033177385112012-09-27T08:10:13.711+10:002012-09-27T08:10:13.711+10:00Hi Bec and Eleni,

Monsters are like animals and are prone to their nature, you know at some point they will attack or act true to their nature. Man however is another beast altogether...cunning, and capable of unspeakable acts.

Look at the whole Jack the Ripper thing. They never caught him. He could have been the guy next door. Now that is really scary to me. Not vampires not werewolves not something out Greek mythology.

Loved the excerpt Bec and I really like the sounds of Blade.

Smiles
EfthaliaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
