Magic Thursday - Blood Cursed

Welcome Darksiders! I'm here to talk about my new release, BLOOD CURSED, book 4 in my Shadowfae series. And seeing as it's Magic Thursday, I figured I'd talk about, y'know, magic.

Is there magic in the world of BLOOD CURSED? Absolutely. All the fairies in the Shadowfae world wear glamour, a glassy magical shell that hides their true appearance and fools unsuspecting humans into thinking the fairies are normal. Big mistake, more often than not. They'll dazzle and beguile you, and before you know it you wake up in a dumpster with your pants missing and can't remember your name.

But Shadowfae fairies also have their own special spells and tricks, depending on what kind of fairy they are. Ember, the heroine of BLOOD CURSED, is bloodfae, which means her blood contains a magical elixir that's almost irresistible to vampires. As you can imagine, that makes her a juicy target for all kinds of grotty bloodsuckers. Ember is mentally tough and determined, but she's just a girl, and vampires have preternatural strength and speed. She needs help to survive, but too many men have used and betrayed her for her to give her trust easily this time.

Diamond, the hero, is glassfae. He can fade to a shadow or glow in the dark, and he also has a thing called glasstalent that lets him see through people's facades to what's underneath. You can't hide anything from Diamond, and he's not exactly scrupulous about wielding his mojo, either, for anything from catching his enemies in a lie to using sneaky mind tricks to figure out just what a lady wants -- or what makes her feel good :) Does this go down well (ha! a pun, no less!) the first time he tries it on Ember? Uh. Nope :)

You can read more about BLOOD CURSED at my website, and read the first chapter online here. And come chat with me on Twitter anytime: @ericahayes

I've got a paperback copy of BLOOD CURSED to give away to one lucky commenter. So tell me: if you could have a magical power, what would it be? And what would you use it for?

  1. Well the obvious, I guess, is the power to clean my house at the snap of a finger :)

Otherwise, I think and interesting one - both dangerous and intriguing - would be the power to make a person see the absolute truth. Would make the current climate change debate easier :)

  2. Blood Cursed sounds fabulous, Erica!

Don't think I'd like to be able to see past people's facades - way too depressing. OTOH, I'd love to be able to fly. Big surprise, huh? One day I'm going to give hang-gliding a go. Might have to blindfold My Beloved so he couldn't watch though - heights give him the heeby jeebies. LOL

  3. Can't wait to read Blood Cursed Erica and what a great cover.

I would like to have the power to make people content or happy even. I'd use my power to end wars and starvation, by getting everyone to work together to solve the world's problems. Very simplistic and unrealistic but I can dream!

Hope Blood Cursed flies off the shelf.

  4. Oooh I love the powers of your characters. Very cool.

I would have the power to eat what I wanted and not get any negative side effects!! Yes, not one that is helpful to anyone but me!! :)) I felt like being selfish today *wink *

  6. Can't wait to find out what she has to say when he tries his moves! Heh heh.
My sekrit power? Hmm. Ability to freeze time, so I could get twice as much done! Especially with this next year of mine, lol.

  7. I read this post and had strange images of faeries running around stealing people's pants. It's like the sock that always goes missing the wash. :P

My power of choice is a toss up between the power to heal and the power to stop time (while leaving me to roam around, unaging and catching up on things like sleep and writing). :)
